Antique 1926 Brunswick 3-Cushion Billiard Table, Ivory Inlays
This is a very rare 1926 “monroe” style billiard table manufactured by the brunswick-balke company. It was my dad’s pride and joy and was used daily until dec of 2012.
I recently had it moved from los angeles to san diego by olhausen, and the two guys who moved it said they have not seen a table like this in the 6 years they have been in the business. They estimated that the three slates weigh about 350 lbs each, and the heavy duty frame probably weighs in at another 8 or 900 lbs, making this table weigh about a ton. Advertisements for modern pool tables brag about 3/4″ or 1″ slates; the slates on this one are almost 3 thick. I’m sure that most of you have figured this out by now from looking at the photos, but i have to mention that this is not a pool table. It has no pockets, it is not made for 8-ball! It does come with the cover shown in the photos. The table has ivory diamonds, and i believe that the inlays in the legs and frame are also ivory, but i can’t be sure. The the felt is about 10 years old and in very good shape. It was hand-woven in italy, underwater, for a very tight weave and long life. It is nothing at all like the fuzzy stuff you see on pool tables at also has heated slates and heated cushions for consistent roll and rebound. 3-cushion billiards is a game of precision! The table is 5′x10′ and requires 5 feet of working space on all four sides, so you need a. 15 x20 ft room at a minimum.
I highly recommend that whoever wins this item has olhausen move it; they have the special tools needed to take it apart and the expertise to move it and reassemble it. It is not a job for the feint of heart. 3-cushion billiards is a very challenging game, and people watching are fascinated by the skill required to play it well. If you are that player, you may never get a chance at a table like this again.
