1895 Brunswick Balke Collender’s 1880s “Union League” model pool table. This is Brunswick Balke Collender’s 1880s “Union League” model pool table, 4 ft. It’s made of quarter-swan oak. I just acquired an extremely rare 4 by 8 starburst version of the legendary Union League and it is a true 44 by 88 size, which is extremely uncommon in the world of antique pool tables. Needs restoration and it is in the shop right now getting some work done on the legs. This is quarter sawn oak and beautifully carved in about 1895, the era of the greatest tables ever produced. Fits any decor and one of the most popular Brunswick models ever produced. Heavily carved legs and sharp cabinet lines it has oak rails and real 100 year old ivory diamonds. The size of this table makes it unique because it was uncommon to make a table in this size way back then. Fits in a lot of homes and the slightly smaller size makes it more user friendly. The Brunswick Balke Collender Co – Union League Antique pool table – 1912. Overall great condition for its age, wood and table are in wonderful shape, pockets need a touch of love. Few billiard tables present such an artistic appearance as the Improved Union League. The legs are handsomely fluted and turned, with square caps and Egyptian moldings. There are finely manufactured brackets on the sides of the union with the head blocks, while moldings running along the sides form a capital foil to the polished woodwork. An elegantly designed frieze in the prevailing Egyptian style completes the decorative part of the table and gives it a splendid finish. The entire workmanship shown in the “Improved Union League” is of the highest order of merit and the table has met with the greatest appreciation in all parts of the country. This is one of the most popular models still readily sought after by decorators, that is from the Victorian era but still fits with contemporary homes with it’s classy carved quarter sawn oak and smart angles and beauty. Produced by Brunswick in the late 1800’s the improved Union league is always in demand and on the east and west coasts this table commands a hefty price of more than. Completely restored to perfection. Still can darken the tone to look like the one in the listing or it can be a lighter oak like pictures 4, 5 and 6. Table has been assembled but rails have not gotten final finish on them yet. This table has 1 inch slate in 4 pieces. Oak all around and real ivory rail sights from the 1800’s. These tables are getting harder and harder to find so if you are considering a quality heirloom that is beautiful and functional, this might be the answer. Antique c1890s Brunswick Balke Collender 9′ Union League pool table with accessories. All parts except legs stamped with “1048″ serial number (slates are stenciled). Includes original balls (1 and 3 ball missing but has cue), slightly used high quality set of pool balls for play, antique ball holder, antique stick holder, hand chalk holder, stringer for straight pool, many more minor accessories. According to BBC’s website the table was manufactured between 1890s-1910. Table has been in the family since it was given to my great great uncle in the 1930s after a pool hall his landlord owned in Winchester, VA closed. It saw a lot of use in my great great uncle’s then my father’s basements until 2008, when we had it COMPLETELY restored and installed on my second floor (no more shooting around the hot water heater). Most of the fasteners, washers, and gaskets are original – including the leather gaskets used behind the rail bolt washers. Three piece slates are original. All wood is original. Installed new Simonis felt and rail cushions after restoration. Pockets are not original but I still have the original pocket castings (original leather rotted out). Currently the table is disassembled and in temperature controlled storage. I had to perform latest disassembly and transport to storage myself which resulted in minor dings on the edges while removing the slates. These areas are hidden by the rails when assembled. One of the slates is marked with BBC’s Baltimore (at the time) address. Have many more pictures showing different stages of disassembly as well as fully assembled that I can provide. It is perfectly constructed and thoroughly first-class in all its appointments. The head blocks that are features of our tables, are of special construction covered by letters patent, and are superior to those in use in all other tables. It is this very superiority of design and construction which prompts so many o copy our productions. They fail, however, to equal our tables wither in mechanical construction, finish or material, and their inferiority is easily discerned upon examination. Furnished either as a carrom or pool table or both combined. All combination tables have our patent adjustable carrom plugs, with iron fastenings. All tables are fitted with Vermont slate bed from our own quarries, imported Simonis cloth, and the incomparable Monarch cushions. The legs, besides being joined with wooden dowels, are fastened with a large iron bolt passing through the entire length of the leg to the top of the head block, thus insuring positive solidity. Along with table are 2 cue racks, 1 ball rack & framed rules from the Worlds Pool Championship held in N. Table has been professionally disassembled for storage. One of the most popular production tables ever made in the Victorian era of the late 1800’s, the Union League is a beautiful, carved, quarter sawn oak model that was copied by many other pool table companies of the time because of it’s unique and handsome style. Table has been completely restored and is ready for a new home. The finished photos I’m showing are borrowed from a friend in the business. It is a 9 footer with 4 piece slate and all the parts are 100% original. Rails have ivory diamonds and they are original. Pockets are re-leathered over original irons. Very hard to find this model anymore but this one came from the Milwaukee area about a year ago and it is ready for installation anywhere in the USA. This table ranks right near the top of all the Brunswick models ever made insofar as quality and desirability goes. Interior designers love this model because it can’fit.
