Ask any long time pool table mechanic or antique pool table guy what the finest table ever made in the 20th century is and he will tell you without a doubt it is the 6 legged Kling in Circassion Walnut. Designed in a Greek and Egyptian type of architecture, this table was in the design stage for several years before development in about 1914 or so. Named for a famous baseball player, Johnny Kling, who also owned a billiards parlor in St Louis. This table was produced in various versions including 4 legged Klings with mahogany veneer or even quarter sawn oak. The very best version is what you are looking at. The extremely rare and beautiful Russian Circassion walnut and it is book matched and spectacular with it’s flaming grain. Does not even grow anywhere on the planet anymore. Estimated to take 300 years to attain a harvestable size for veneer. The legs each feature a stripe of ebony with Mother of pearl and celluloid inlay. All around the cabinet is square pearl inlays and the rail tops are Rosewood with pearl rail sights. The slates are very heavy 1 1/2 inch thick requiring a solid floor beneath it. Only minor negative is some mild damage at the base of some of the legs from being hit with a mop over time during the first 50 years of it’s life in a fraternal lodge. Present owner has owned this table for 45 years. Table weighs about 1 ton. Less than 100 of these were said to have been produced. Great investment and one that will grow in value over time.
