Brunswick Balke Collender Medalist 6-leg pool table
Professionally restored, handsome and rare 1923 Brunswick-Balke-Collender tournament size (50″ X 100″ playing surface) pool table. This “Medalist” model has six massive legs, amazingly detailed woodwork throughout, composed of many different rare hardwoods. Some of the materials include swirly-butt walnut, birds eye maple, ebony, rosewood and mother-of-pearl, just to name a few. All the literally thousands of pieces were handmade by old-world craftsmen using manual lathes to shape and fit, who then meticulously assembled the pieces into a masterpiece, that would be almost impossible to duplicate today. This Medalist has a storied past and was originally bought by the famous Slate and Madison Pool Hall in Rockford, Ill. It was used by many professional players during it’s many years of service there, until it was bought and restored by Antique Billiard Supply. I have a framed picture of the table in the S & M pool hall, before it was removed and restored. Below the picture in the frame is a signed documentation letter providing commentary by Curator, Bob Radford. All of this adds to the bonafides of this Medalist. What a conversation piece! New 3-piece extra thick doweled slate at the time of restoration and a playing surface covered of new Simonis cloth were fitted when I moved to Lakeway, TX 2 years ago. All new leather pockets and satin fringe were handmade and fitted during restoration. The table also has the rare option of a ball return system. Package also comes with authentic 1920’s vintage ball rack and a modern day professional mechanical ball racking tool (Sardo M-3000), see picture, which provides for a perfect rack. Table will also come with a like-new set of Brunswick Centennial balls. Only a few of these tables have survived the decades and even fewer compare to the condition of this one. Only played on by adults and never abused. This pool table has “character”, in a way very few other objects have got. This Medalist has had very little use since full restoration by expert old-world craftsmen at Antique Billiard Supply, in Rockford, Illinois.
