Antique Brunswick Billiards 8′ Monarch Pool Table
This is the flagship table of the Brunswick Corporation produced from about 1855 until the 1890’s. Extremely popular and still highly sought after today. This one is still getting some TLC in the end stages of restoration. This one has wood from the rain forests of South America and the background veneer is the beautiful Rosewood. Rosewood gets it’s name from the sweet smell of roses that emits from the wood when you sand it. Real ivory rail sights complete the rail tops and the marquetry has several rare rain forest hardwoods neatly inlaid in beautiful patterns all around. The rail sides are’scooped’ top and bottom with rosewood trim and the center piece a burl walnut. The cast iron base consists of 4 lion heads mounted on a cast iron centerpiece in the center of the table for support and leveling. It is hidden by a decorative cone and the entire cast iron base is painted with high grade black enamel and trimmed out with hand done gold leafing on the mane and leafy features of the castings. This is a very detailed job when done correctly. The pockets are reproductions. They simply can’t stand the test of time over 140 years and it is seldom that the originals are able to be used. Slate is 1 inch and original with new wood backing. This is an 8 foot size which is the most common in this model. User friendly and takes up less space.
